9 More Black Bookstagrammers You Should Be Following

Updated: Sep 16, 2022

As a follow-up to a previous blog post, here are 9 additional black bookstagrammers that you should definitely keep an eye out for!

Anita, a bookstagrammer from London, has several book spines posted on her profile, but what sets her apart from other bookstagrammers is her highlight of Afrocentric novels. Titles such as Dele Weds Destiny by Tomi Obaro are featured on her page as she participates in the Afrocentric April Booksta Tour.

Both a bookstagrammer and a chemist, Dr. Crystal has a wide variety of books that are sure to satisfy every reader. Check out her posts from Black History Month for some Black literature, like Colson Whitehead’s Harlem Shuffle.

DJ doubles as a POC and Queer bookstagrammer with many colorful queer titles featured on his Instagram. On DJ’s profile, you can also find novels highlighting Asian protagonists, such as Traci Chee’s A Thousand Steps into Night and Crystal Z. Lee’s Kai the Dancing Butterfly.

A published author herself, Diana Thorburn is Jamaican bibliophile whose profile features both novels and the occasional waterfall. Her highlight ‘Review’ conveniently has links to her posts covering reviews of the books she’s read, all with the signature photo style of Diana herself reading book.

A Nigerian-American “romance enthusiast,” Cee’s profile will give you all the romantic feels! As an author-hopeful herself Cee has given sneak peeks about her own books and is even searching for beta readers for her writing! Her club, ‘The Romantics’ has its own Instagram page with a link tree connection where one can join. The book club is online!

Follow Christina for both book recommendations and book-related hotspots around Atlanta! Her book reviews include a rating out of five stars, a quick look into what she liked and what she didn’t like, a short synopsis, and an overall final thoughts section. Thorough and very easy to navigate!

What stands out most about Kaitlyn’s bookstagram is not necessarily her choice of book, but her captions. Clearly, a storyteller herself, Kaitlyn’s content intertwines information about her reads as well as related anecdotes or musings. My personal favorite is this one where she includes a short reminiscence of when she was first introduced to spoken word.

Combined with some excellent book recommendations, hilarious reels, and some lovely books in nature pics, Zakiyah’s bookstagram has got it all. Not limited by genre, Zakiyah’s account features books across various genres, including the Latinx magical realist title The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina by Zoraida Córdova.

Not only does Syd’s account provide a review and synopsis of her reads, but she also specifies one thing she loved and one thing she didn’t love about her reads. This very honest review style helps you decide for yourself if the pros outweigh the cons!
