Rivers Solomon. Where does one start with such an incredible author?

Solomon is a non-binary author of our generation who creates literary fiction that pushes us to think from completely different perspectives. Originally born in the United States, Solomon lives with their family in the UK and has released three books since their debut in 2018 with An Unkindness of Ghosts.

Solomon tackles race and identity while interweaving unique storytelling and captivating worlds in every book they have written. They have won awards such as the Lambda Award for their second book, The Deep, and the 2022 Stonewall Book Award for Sorrowland—which was most recently released in 2021.

Most interestingly, are people's discussions of Solomon’s books. An Unkindness of Ghosts was reviewed by Howard Community College in their “Bookish 102” Youtube/podcast series. Traditionally, university podcasts would go for classic literature, non-fiction, or buzzing fiction, but Solomon has caught their attention. Amazon also has over 422 global reviews for Sorrowland, and Opinions of a Wolf goes into a deep dive about The Deep on their blog who discusses the possibilities of the protagonist being neurodiverse. Overall, Solomon’s books are conversation starters.

For anyone looking for queer and BIPOC sci-fi or literary fiction, Rivers Solomon is a great author to start with.
