This year has been very abundant in terms of books I have read. To date, I have read 28 books. We are in week 11, so it’s 2.5 books on average per week, and I could not tell you how that happened.
While I am an avid book reader, I usually go in spurts. Ten books in two weeks, then nothing for months. Then I reread a favorite series and DNF something on my TBR. Then I’ll find an author on Tiktok I keep seeing and get wildly disappointed after reading a book or two. This is my usual habit of reading. However, this year is a little different. This year, I decided to focus on black authors and black MCs and the result is I literally cannot put books down.
So, here is a first quarter of the year review. An important thing to note, I rarely give full stars to books so if they are listed 5/5, that really means something. While I won’t go into all 28 books I have read, I will list my top five:
Manifesto of a Shrew - First book of the year

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon - Fourth book of the year

Legendborn - Sixth book of the year

Kwarq - Eighteenth book of the year

I Wanna Be Down - Twenty-seventh book of the year

I hope you take some time to try and read these books this year. Also, let us know! What books are you reading? What have you loved in the first three months of 2023? Leave a comment!
