Trending Indie Books I Would Read Based on the Cover

They say to never judge a book by its cover, but we all know that's not how it works. We all tend to lean toward specific colors, genres, and fonts when we pick the books we are most interested in reading. Here are some trending indie books that I would like to read based on their covers and why.

The Fox and the Dryad

Kellen Graves

I am an absolute sucker for a good fantasy novel, and when you add a dark forest background with gold tones, you pretty much have me sold. What appeals to me most about this cover is its elemental earth themes and the passion that you can clearly see between the two characters on the front.

Nic Blake and the Remarkables

Angie Thomas

I already like Angie Thomas, and on top of that I love a good middle-grade story, but you will always get me to swipe my card when I see black girls on the cover of a clearly magical-realm-themed book. Always. It helps that she has a cute little puppy sidekick licking her face too.

Funeral

Daisuke Shen & Vi Ki Nao

I am not going to lie–the cover is clearly done by an amateur. The drawings and color are too simple and the typeset is not overall appealing. However, despite that, I can sense what type of story it will be. I can understand that it will have some horror aspects and elements from Asian mythology from what's presented on the cover. Overall, what appeals to me the most is that it says “a novella.” While that may not make something appealing to another, it tells me that I can comfortably get the book and read it without having to dedicate a long period of time. Since novellas are between 17,500 to 40,000 words I know that whether I like it or not, I can still finish it in less than two hours.

Heart, Haunt, Havoc

Freydis Moon

Aside from that basic blue door that ruins the vibe, I love the coloring and the horror aspects on the cover. Large house, animals, blood, two men–it gives me an idea of what I might be in for if the novel's name isn’t already screaming it.

A River Enchanted & A Fire Endless

Rebecca Ross

Dark blues and purples and a water element? Love it. Particularly in this version where the words and the river mix to give that illusion of enchantment. Then accompanied by ‘A Fire Endless’ to complete the duology with the element of fire? Chefs kiss.
